It has been said before that “Social Justice is a Christian tradition…not a liberal agenda” and the Justice & Community Engagement Ministry at Spring Hill United Church of Christ not only believes this to be true, they fight injustice whenever it is found.
There is no shortage of Social Justice issues in our world today and we realize that none of us can do everything, but that should not stop all of us from doing something. The Social Justice Team at Spring Hill United Church of Christ is committed to educating the church and community about, and advocating for the following:
· Environmental Justice
· Immigration Justice
· Racial Justice
· Human Rights for all
· LGBTQIA Rights
· Human Trafficking Awareness and Eradication
· Common Sense Gun Reform Laws
We have participated in rallies, held vigils and meetings, and dedicated sermons to these and many other very important issues. Spring Hill United Church of Christ has a robust recycling program and recently added a “Recycle Beyond the Bag” program where anyone can drop the following items off at the church and once a certain amount is collected, they will be recycled into a bench that will be given to SHUCC. The items that can be dropped off are:
· Produce and Bread Bags
· Plastic Grocery Bags
· Cereal Box Liners
· Ice Bags
· Ziploc and other Reclosable Bags
· Case Overwrap (from cases of water)
· Newspaper Sleeves
· Dry Cleaning Bags
· Bubble Wrap and Packing Pillows
We also have recently adopted a road near the church campus and we are committed to keeping in clean and free of garbage.
The Social Justice Team meets on the Third Sunday of every month after worship. Everyone is invited to attend. If you cannot attend one of our meetings but you would like to know more information, please contact the Social Justice Team Leader, Chance Martinez-Colon at 727-222-5416 or by email at email@example.com. We look forward to seeing you soon.
